Abstract and Traditional Art

About Me

Whats New?

I have a Solo Exhibition running from 18th November until 31st December 2008 in the Upper Foyer of the Regal Community Theatre in Bathgate.  The exhibition is entitled “Organic Form: Exploration of Spirituality” consisting of various paintings, all of which are for sale.

I have recently submitted work into the Strathbrock Partnership Centre in Broxburn as part of the SPLAT Initiative.

When I was little I was forever busy colouring in and drawing pictures - I loved to design big victorian dresses and thought one day I might be a fashion designer.  My own three children have the same enthusiasm for art and long may it continue. The only subject I would say I loved at High School was Art and Design and it showed - I passed my Higher with flying colours.

After having my family and a short stay in Australia, we  returned to Scotland and I joined the Livingston Art Association where I found like-minded people who encouraged me and inspired me to concentrate on my art once more.   I am now an active member of the LAA Committee.

I have also joined the inArt Collective and have had opportunities to exhibit though them.

I have recently started pottery and am enjoying working with/sculpting with clay.

Abstract art seems to be natural for me as I seem to draw inspiration from around me and put it onto paper or canvas. I often don’t work from a photograph - sometimes images just come to me and I feel the need to draw or paint. Sometimes though,  I see a form or a shape that inspires me, either from life, or from a photograph/piece of work that I have seen.

My influences are celtic and viking as well as baroque, Salvador Dali, Cubist and Palaozzi.  I enjoy flowing movement/flowing form and shapes that may be perceived as organic.

I feel that art is for everyone and that everyone has creativity within them; its just the case of tuning into that particular gift.  I hope that my work conveys the feeling that art can be fun and exciting and perhaps would inspire others to unlock their creativity.
